Hello everyone, welcome to another Wednesday Wisdom, today we’re exploring high sensitivity’s role and essence through the lens of Nature itself.
I’ll get into its correspondences with the elements through the perspective of Ayurveda and what that means in terms of really understanding and supporting it. Let’s get into it!
Hello! OK! Onto sensitivity through the eyes of Nature.
In a world that often feels loud and relentless, it can be hard to see our sensitivity as the gift that it is.
We may have felt ashamed, overwhelmed, or even frustrated with our heightened senses. High sensitivity a sacred gift, a delicate tune in harmony with the natural world.
The trait of high sensitivity is just an expression of a natural, beautiful variation in human beings that echoes the very patterns of nature.
Imagine a feather. High sensitivity is a lot like this.
As a person with high sensitivity, much like the feather, you’re more susceptible to the subtle currents of air that others might not even notice.
Every breeze or gust affects you. The sounds, the light, emotions, all seem to touch you more directly than others who don’t have as many feathers.
This feather and high sensitivity represent the elements of air and ether, or “Vata” according to the principles of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is an ancient system of holistic health and wellness from India. It’s like a wise old friend that understands the rhythms and elements of nature and how they affect our bodies and minds.
In Ayurveda, everything is made up of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (space). These elements combine in different ways to create three primary energies or “doshas”: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Think about the feather again. When there is an abundance of air and ether, the feather gets blown about more easily, swirling in the wind. That’s the energy of high sensitivity!
When you have an abundance of Vata, as is typically the case with high sensitivity, you’re more prone to being affected by stimuli – you’re that feather dancing and swirling to the rhythms of the wind.
This Vata, or abundance of the air and ether elements that is high sensitivity, may be innate (you were simply born with it), and/or it may be the compounding results of modern life, stress, and traumas.
When we don’t understand this aspect of ourselves, we don’t know how to properly support it, which makes high sensitivity feel ultra-problematic!
By understanding that high sensitivity is akin to feathers and the qualities of the elements of air and ether, you’re able to see it as a completely natural part of existence that just needs a little different care than, say, mud.
Understanding is just the first step. It’s through embracing and properly supporting our sensitivity that we unlock its true potential.
By aligning with Nature’s rhythms and energies, we cultivate an environment where our sensitivity can thrive.
This support is essential; it allows us to flourish and use our sensitivity as a force for good – for ourselves and for those around us.
