Sleep & The Vicious Cycle for Sensitive Folks

Hello everyone, today we’re diving into a topic that I know many of you struggle with: the relentless cycle of poor sleep and over-stimulation that plagues those of us who are highly sensitive. I’ll share why this happens, what to do about it, and some tips you can start tonight to break this cycle! Let’s dive in!

For those that don’t know me or need a little refresher, I am Devon and this is another episode of Wednesday Wisdom! I am an Integrative Health Expert, Ayurvedic Health Advisor, a Holistic Life Coach, and the founder of The InnerSpark Method where I teach sensitive, deep-feelers how to transform their high sensitivity from a source of shame, overwhelm, frustration, and something that’s “wrong” with them into their greatest superpower!

OK, so let’s talk about sleep and this vicious cycle of poor sleep that so many sensitive folks are trapped in…

You might lie awake at night, your mind racing, your senses heightened, only to find that the lack of sleep leaves you even more susceptible to becoming overstimulated the next day.

It can feel like you’re trapped in this cycle, and it’s affecting everything: your energy levels, your mood, your health, and your overall quality of life.

Does this sound like you? Tell me about your sleep patterns.

It’s not just about being a ‘light sleeper’. As a highly sensitive person, your senses are constantly on high alert, soaking in every detail, every noise, every change in light.

After spend a whole day of living in our modern, switched-on world, it’s likely you’re pretty over-stimulated.

This can make it incredibly difficult to calm your mind and body down enough to get a good, deep night’s rest.

The challenge here is real and intense, and it can leave you feeling drained and frustrated, confused, and wondering what’s “wrong” with you.

When we’re stuck in this cycle, it’s not just our sleep that suffers. It affects our mental health, making us more prone to anxiety and mood swings.

It affects our physical health, leading to chronic fatigue and weakened immune system.

And above all, it robs us of the joy of living fully, of experiencing life without constantly feeling on edge and sensed out.

But what if I told you there’s another way? That you don’t have to be stuck in this exhausting cycle.

A simple, calming pre-sleep routine can be a game-changer. I know we all know this already, yet how many of us are ACTUALLY doing it?

This is where shame is really rearing its ugly head and preventing us from understanding, supporting, and embracing our high sensitivity.

We may believe we don’t relaly “need” this wind down, we may feel like there’s no time, or that it’s too indulgent, or whatever else we tell ourselves, but the truth is, it’s essential.

How would your ideal wind down time look?

Picture yourself winding down with a warm herbal tea, or perhaps some calming yoga poses. Maybe journaling any stray thoughts from the day so they’re out of your head.

Imagine creating a sleep environment that supports your sensitivity instead of aggravating it by using blackout curtains, some white noise if necessary, and a head blanket.

But the truth is, breaking this cycle requires more than just a few adjustments. It requires a comprehensive approach, a deep understanding of your sensitivity and how it affects not just your sleep, but your entire system. And that’s exactly what my signature program, The InnerSpark Method, offers. It’s a journey towards understanding, supporting, and embracing your sensitivity to truly thrive with confidence and joy and with your sensitivity leading the way!

So, if you’re tired of restless nights and overstimulated days, if you’re ready to break this cycle and truly transform your life, I invite you to join my program. Because you deserve more than just ‘getting by’—you deserve to thrive as a highly sensitive person.

Tell me how you’ll be updating your sleep game and which of these tips you’ll be implementing as part of your evening wind down! Inspire each other and let’s sleep better so that we can really use our sensitivity as the gift it is!
