All About Seasonal Living

What is Seasonal Living?

Seasonal Living is aligning with the inevitable changes of Nature. It’s about surrendering to the flow and allowing the natural rhythms, rather than resisting them.

It’s our ultimate resource in healing the legacy of Feminine Shame we’re all carrying.

Seasonal Living is about way more than just changing your wardrobe, enjoying watermelon in the summer, and maybe decorating for holidays.

To truly live seasonally is the ultimate tool for personal, professional, and spiritual awakening and embodying your highest self in this lifetime.

Through tending your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies with:

  • seasonal food and lifestyle practices
  • specific personal tools practiced at different times of the year when their potential is amplified
  • observing the archetypes of The Mother as outlined on InnerSpark’s Wheel
  • bringing awareness to our emotional and mental tendencies throughout the seasons
  • and more…

you’ll find greater ease and permission to flow (and not feel like you must be an automaton).

Why Live Seasonally?

Seasonal Living provides an entry point into our sacred soul map as we journey through and embody the eight cosmic archetypal frequencies for sovereignty, healing, and transformation.

When we resist the natural rhythms of life, either consciously or subconsciously, we create dis-ease and disharmony on all levels of our being – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We feel lost, disjointed, frustrated, and purposeless. We feel depleted and burnt out and aren’t tapped into our own life force energy.

The waxes and wanes of the seasons exist for a reason. All living things on Earth require periods of rejuvenation, purging, expansion, and building. We aren’t meant to exist in one of these phases indefinitely. Naturally, we each may have one we “like” more than the other, however, all are necessary.

The energies of each season and “sub-season” have very specific instructions for us. By tuning into what’s being asked of us in each moment and by looking to Mother Nature for guidance, we inevitably experience greater vitality, resiliency, and clarity.

How to Live Seasonally…

Each season, and each of the “sub-seasons” there in, have a specific flavor, invitation, and energy. For last many generations, our innate connection to this flow has weakened tremendously. In the beginning, it may feel foreign or even silly, however, remember that whether you are consciously tuned into the flow or not, you are being impacted.

Some tips for Seasonal Living:

• Check in with your four bodies and notice whatever is present. What is needed at this time? What are the natural impulses and urges?
Eat seasonally.
•Create a seasonal altar in your home.
•Align your personal care practices with the seasons.
•Change your physical activity seasonally.
•Change your yoga, meditation, and breathwork practices according to the seasons, as well

Each “sub-season” is roughly six weeks, just over 40 days. The 40-day period is one that is auspicious across many philosophies, lineages, religions, and more. It also takes about 40 days for a new habit to form and to drop something that has become toxic to your life. A great way to align is to select something to work with during that time that aligns with the sub-season for even greater shifts.

When Do Seasons Change?

The Wheel of the Year consists of the four main seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter – and four sub-seasons. Each season has two parts to it. To use the old Celtic terms we can think of them as follows:

Spring Equinox (Ostara) and May Day (Beltane)
Summer Solstice (Litha) and Lammas
Fall Equinox (Mabon) and Halloween (Samhain)
and Winter Solstice (Yule) and Groundhog Day (Imbolc)

The second part of the season is marked exactly halfway between the previous major season and the next major season. For example, Halloween (Samhain) is six weeks after the Fall Equinox and six weeks before the Winter Solstice (Yule). While the main energetic is tied to the major season of the time, the second six-week portal has a slightly different invitation for us.

Support Throughout the Whole Wheel of the Year

Spring

Spring is a beautiful transitional period between the deep rest of winter and the fully expressed, expansiveness of summer. It’s a time for sorting things out so we may take action on all that we imagined for ourselves during the introspection of winter. We’re invited to work with The Initiate and The Lover Frequencies.

Summer

Summer marks the end of the “Light Half of the Year” as the sun will shine its longest and then slowly begin its retreat into the “Dark Half of the Year” to be “reborn” again at the Winter Solstice. The energy in the collective is buzzing, vibrant, alive, gregarious, outgoing, expressive, and expansive. We’re invited to work with The Blacksmith and The Sacred Activist Archetypes.

Autumn

If the Wheel of the Year were likened to moon phases, autumn would be the waning phase before winter’s new moon and spring would be the waxing phase before summer’s full expression. Just as in those lunar phases each month, we are impacted. We’re invited to work with The High Priestess and The Death Doula Archetypes.

Winter

At the Winter Solstice, despite the fact that it’s the darkest (and coldest) time it’ll be all year, we’re welcoming the return of the light once more. This is the Wheel of the Year’s “New Moon” and a time for planting seeds in the darkness, the void, the place of no-thing from which all things manifest. We’re invited to work with The Void and The Cosmic Child Archetypes.

To fully embody, understand, and spiral with the seasons is so much more than what we’ve been taught. Working with the 8 cosmic archetypes is our way to true sovereignty, freedom, joy, healing, and a shameless, soul-led life.
